Introduction
Stop the Parade Coalition was formed in 2004 as a response to the annual sodomite parade through the centre of Belfast. We are a non-denominational group of born-again Christians who believe the Bible is the Word of God. As followers of Jesus Christ we believe must strive to warn people that their actions have eternal consequences, and that God will judge sin. We do not hate homosexuals, we love them and long to see them repent of their sin and find healing and forgiveness in Jesus Christ.
If homosexuals want to have equality and be an integrated part of society - there is an associated burden of civic responsibility, something we believe is evidently lacking given the outrageous behaviour when this contentious parade was staged last year. It seems that the homosexuals demanding this parade in face of the rights and sensitivities of ordinary people are similar in ways to little children. They want the rights of adults but refuse to accept civic responsibility and behave in an appropriate and grown up manner. Everybody is looking for parity of esteem, but nobody should be above the law. This applies to any contentious parade whether sectarian, violent or lewd.
Objectives
Our objectives are twofold in that we wish to see the end of the contentious Belfast Pride parade - a lewd and offensive festival that promotes a sinful and immoral lifestyle, and we want to reach out to sodomites taking part in the parade to show them that there is an alternative and that they can be delivered from the bondage of sodomy by repentance from sin and faith in Jesus Christ alone. We are glad that last year an individual contacted us after the parade and we were able to provide appropriate help and assistance for him.
Message
This is the reason we are forthright in declaring the sinful and filthy nature of homosexuality. It is not to offend our cause unnecessary animosity but to speak the truth about the awful nature of this condition, and by doing so assist homosexuals on the pathway to inner healing and a new life. Unless a person can identify their sin they will never be in a position to repent from it. Unless a sodomite realises the awful and vile status of their practice before God, and the judgement God will bring upon them and all who will not turn from their sin, they will never see the need to find the place of repentance and healing.
Homosexuality is not only spiritually corrupt but it also carries massively increased risks from disease, infection and a whole catalogue of disorders. These things are a side effect of sin, whether homosexual or not and we would be less than Christian if we did not try to prevent such harm befalling any human being.
In Northern Ireland many parades cause grievance to one community or the other for differing reasons. The Belfast Pride parade causes offence to all true Christians who hold the Bible dear to their hearts and long to see man and women freed from the tyranny of sin and oppose the virulent promotion of what is a sinful abomination in the form of this contentious parade.
The filthy behaviour and lewdness of the participants in last year's Belfast Pride would not be tolerated in any other circumstances. If Hibernians or Orangemen behaved in the disgusting manner that many of the ‘Pride’ marchers do, they would be arrested immediately and certainly would not be marching through the city centre again. We call on the Chief Constable and Parades Commission to monitor the parade this year and to take action immediately when necessary, instead of turning the usual blind eye to this ‘elite’ minority.
We call upon them to ban Belfast Pride 2005 and implement their Code of Conduct in an even handed manner and consistent manner. Last year's coat trailing exercise from Belfast Pride proved that the only way to ensure compliance from this parading organisation is to permanently stop them from marching and venting their hatred (seemingly the theme of Pride 2004) against those that maintain biblical standards of morality. We will continue to carry on our protests, monitoring and campaigning until this objective is acheived.
